blackdynamite Black Dynamite: A Tribute To Blaxploitation FilmsFor months, there has been rumblings around the net about Michael Jai White’s tribute film to blaxploitation movies of the 1970s called Black Dynamite.  It has created such a buzz when it was first screened at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival that, Sony Worldwide picked it up for distribution. Since then, many critics throughout the net have raved over its theme, direction, story, wit, action, and humor as one of the comedies to watch for in 2009! The film’s plot even has that notorious evil nemesis, “The Man.”

When I first heard about this film, on Ain’t It Cool News.com, I was very happy to see Mr. White aggressively pursuing the action movie career boost he needs. He has not enjoyed the lead role notoriety as he once did, when he took the role of a dark superhero and starred in the comic book adaptation, Spawn. I was also very excited about the fact, that I will get another chance to see the bravado of characters like Dolemite, Shaft, The Mack, Super Fly, and Hammer. The good news about this movie is Michael Jai White portrays Black Dynamite straight and serious which makes this all the more beautiful and funny! This movie was definitely produced to give that glorious low budgeted feel of this genre’s era. There seems to be nothing but funk and machismo going on here!

blackdynamite1small Black Dynamite: A Tribute To Blaxploitation FilmsBlack Dynamite is also a gutsy, creative endeavor for Michael Jai White who also co-wrote the story and screenplay with Byron Minns and Director Scott Sanders. He is definitely building himself a special niche in Hollywood on top of his profession as an actor. I believe this movie will energize his career with cult-hero props to the likes of Jackie Chan, Robert Townsend, Jim Kelly, and Bruce Campbell.

Previously, I have enjoyed his humorous ex-pro football character in Tyler Perry’s, Why Did I Get Married. It was a humorous role I have never seen from him before until now. The audience really got a few laughs off of his “hen-pecked” husband who heels in the presence of his over-bearing wife. His presence on screen was more gratifying to me than the rest of the cast members due to his comedic angst and tolerance. He was real loose in his scenes.

Now ever since I have watched Black Dynamite’s trailer, Michael Jai White and company appears to have a big hit on their hands when this movie debuts on October 16, 2009. I get the real “grindhouse” feel that Tarantino and Rodriguez may have wanted to fully achieve from their previous dual feature efforts. Black Dynamite’s preview really has it all going for itself with pure retro fun, movie-extra campiness, and the respect to a popular form of post-Vietnam film making! I can not wait to see it!

The cast also includes Arsenio Hall, Tommy Davidson, Bokeem Woodbine, Brian McKnight, John Salley, Kym Whitley, and Salli Richardson.

Check out the following trailers below and visit the movie’s official website for a quick history lesson. You better be there to support this flick. It is must watch cinema, you dig?
