I Wish Upon a Spray Can

Graffiti Artist Creating a MuralWhen Hip Hop thrived in the late 80’s, everything at that time seemed to be good. The art form was loved, appreciated and most importantly getting respected. I’m not so sure about you, but in my opinion, something always seems to be left out or left behind or even left alone. The DJs were bringing it, the Emcees were flowing it, the B-Boys were rocking it and the Graffiti Artists were…
And the Graffiti Artists were…

Oh, Damn!!! What were they doing?

Can anybody remember how the creative minds of Graffiti Artists were respected in the eye of the mainstream at that time or even now?

You know what I wish? I wish we had the sense to have the Graffiti Artists to be Hip Hop’s advertisers, promoters and marketers.

I wish we had the sense to have them be the ones who would design all rap concert posters, flyers and tickets.

I wish we had the sense to have them be a part of all rap shows, creating burners behind the scenes or create stage designs.

Back to the Old School - Just Ice by Gnome

I wish we had the sense to have them do a piece on most, if not all rap albums and 12″ covers.

I wish we had the sense to dare Hollywood to create a character in a movie that just so happens to be a Graffiti Artist.

I wish we had the sense to have all Hip Hop club owners to make it mandatory that local Graffiti Artists must paint the inner walls as well as the outside.

However, most importantly than all of that is this, I truly wish we had the sense to apologize to every one of those who we left out, left behind and left alone.

PIECE my Brothers and Sisters.
