For those not familiar, minstrel shows were theatrical skits that portrayed African Americans as cartoonish stereotypes. You know; lazy, uneducated, inarticulate, watermelon, fried chicken, yada yada yada. The characters were either played by Caucasian or Black actors in black face. White audiences in the 1800′s to early 1900′s were greatly entertained by them. Mainstream America assumed them to be accurate portrayals of all Black people. It’s not hard to make that assumption if that’s the only insight you had regarding any group of people.White Minstrel in Blackface

Minstrel shows have long since died out, or so it seems. I think they’ve just taken on a new form.

Introducing…The Minstrel Show: Version 2.0.

Step right up, ladies and gentlemen, and see those amazing blunt smoking, pimptastic, hoochielicious, ghetto fabulous hood rats you’ve read and heard so much about.

See those thug-tastic brothaz as they defy “the man” while sporting the latest prison-inspired attire.
Watch those shameless sistaz exploit themselves in the most revealing strip club fashions. Marvel as these young (c)rappers single-handedly destroy decades of progress with a single music video.

Thrill to their exploits as they spit in the face of every person who gave and risked their lives in the name of equality, all for the sake of “keepin’ it real.”

Gasp in awe as “The Man” sits in the shadows getting filthy rich from their self-degrading antics.

27972317hy2 Introducing...The Minstrel Show: Version 2.0Once again, negative characteristics are developed into larger than life caricatures that are supposed to represent Black culture. And all the young people are gobbling it up hook, line, and sinker. Just ask any fool you see at the mall why they dress the way they do, but be prepared for a stupid response.

Whuch yu mean? I s’pose to ha’ muh pantz hangin’ offa muh behind. I’s repreezentin’ fo’ the brothaz. It’s uh Black Thang. Don’ chu watch BET, Dawwg?”

Thankfully, I don’t! I’m waiting to see the next idiotic thing some uneducated moron does and calls it a “Black Thang.”

That’s just my opinion, but I think I’m right!
