Kung Fu Saturdays: The Deadly Breaking Sword

514eeAPeEOL. SL500 Kung Fu Saturdays: The Deadly Breaking SwordThis week we have Hong Kong action movie greats, Alexander Fu Sheng and Ti Lung, tag-teaming together in The Deadly Breaking Sword. Lots of blood, swords, and Ti Lung style bad-assery sprinkled with Fu Sheng’s charming tom-foolery to make this movie worth while and fun. It is another Shaw Brothers must watch kung fu flick!

Ti Lung runs around this film challenging people to the death with his arrogance and bad temper as a master swordsman. Reminiscent of some old gun fighter flicks, Ti Lung also comes prepared with a coffin before every match. This guy is a real heart warmer.

Then we got Fu Sheng who is a petty scoundrel and a compulsive gambler who moonlights as a bouncer to pay off his debts. His indentured servant hood carries on with comic relief and a soft spot for the ladies in the film.

Although the fight scenes are solid, there is not much of a compelling story. The characters are an enjoyable contrast with the usual elaborate Shaw Brothers movie sets. I for one enjoyed the film because I am a fan of Ti Lung and Alexander Fu Sheng, and I believe there is enough quality of action and scenes to make this movie a must watch.

Now kick back and enjoy!
