Old School Emcee Battles!

Listen up right now! We have a Brother on the “other side of the pond,” by the name of Battlechasers, who has delivered the goods to all of you out there in the True School! I found his article titled Invasion of the Old School from his blog The Underground Strikes Back which is constipated with links of many old school emcee battles. I felt like I was at a Las Vegas buffet after a hunger strike! I found out these links were originally sourced from Wutang-corp.com‘s forum thread by a Brother called Memory Man of Austin, Texas in February, 2007.

All of these links came from cassette recordings created at legendary locations like The T-Connection, Harlem World, Club Negril, The Bronx River Center and The Audobon Ballroom. These tape recordings feature The Force MCs, Cold Crush Brothers, The Crash Crew, The Fearless Four, The Fantastic Five, The L Brothers, DJ Breakout, The Herculords, and The Treacherous Three. There are also some Golden Age recordings from the infamous 1985-88 New Music Seminars featuring King Sun, Roxanne Shante, Busy Bee, Fruitkwan, Melle Mel, Grandmaster Caz, T LA Rock, Bango and MC Serch.

There are also Beatbox and DJ battles included from the New Music Seminar recordings featuring Wise, Jazzy Jeff, Cash Money, Battlecat, Joe Cooley, Mr. Mixx, and Jazzy Joyce! This stuff is legendary!

Also included are live performances of The Juice Crew All Stars in the United Kingdom, and the cherry on top are recordings of Mr. Magic’s Rap Attack and Marley Marl’s In Control mix shows!

Much respect to Battlechasers and Memory Man for opening up shop to the world of real Hip Hop! Enjoy the classics right now!

This battle was controversial in that Cold Crush was allegedly not told that
the show was being advertised as a battle and just did their regular set. The Force MCs had prepared routines dissing Cold Crush and won over the crowd. Words were exchanged between the crews later.
