As Hip Hop continues to thrive and influence today’s mainstream pop culture after three decades of growth, the world-famous Rock Steady Crew is on the verge of their 31st Anniversary. The historic four-day celebration kicks off in New York City beginning Thursday, July 24 with the legendary Celebrity Benefit Basketball Challenge, and will wrap on Sunday, July 27 with the Outdoor Concert in Newark, New Jersey as an official event at the Third Annual Lincoln Park Music Festival.

As I was checking out the latest current events on our website, I came across an interesting article that was recently posted yesterday by Thug Life Army.com. By now, almost every Hip Hopper out there has heard the recent criticism of the new school kid, Soulja Boy, by the old school veteran, Ice T. Me, myself and I have no words for this matter, however a brother by the name of N.Y. Oil had plenty of great words to say on Hip Hop Music as a whole.

Ladies and Gentlemen, step right up and watch a snake swallow its own tail! It is the dumbest thing you will ever see! Watch this serpent eat itself at its very own existence while it publicly rationalizes its witch-hunt against piracy! Don’t you dare laugh at its foolishness. It does not care about innocent people or respect culture. One day, if you are ever caught blasting your car sound system at a red light, you too will be crucified as a pirate!

Last night I came across some video footage recorded in 1986 at the dawn of the Golden Age of Hip Hop. What you are about to view are documented interviews from a Dutch televison reporter, Marcel Vanthilt. During this era, Hip Hop culture was making leaps in bounds in Europe as it was in North America. The intrigue in these interviews is quite evident why our culture burst into an international phenomenan. To this very day, Hip Hop Culture is not just fully embraced in Europe, but also in Africa, Asia, Australia, South America, and the Middle East. Where ever there is a creative soul to be liberated on this planet, there is Hip Hop.

During the mid 1980s when B-Boying was being commercially pimped, the world was exposed to the legendary New York City Breakers and The Rock Steady Crew. Unknowingly, these two B-Boy crews were internationally evangelized Hip Hop’s dance form and culture, and thanks to the international community B-Boying never died. If you were really paying attention to Hip Hop culture on the outside looking in, the international community is who is saving it now.

There are many books and interviews on Hip Hop but none shine in comparison to works that document history and biography. Especially when it comes from the mouths of Brothers and Sisters like Grandmaster Flash. If you are a DJ or Hip Hop enthusiast you have no excuse not to own a copy of The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash.

We all have our own interpretation or impression of the “N” word spelled with letters “E-R” at the end. Little do people think that word has been transforming since the 1800s. That word historically is greatly despised by the Black community, until the mid 1960s, it evolved and began to spread like a disease without a cure. That word of hate has been twisted into a word showing perverse love. I don’t give a damn what anybody says to me, in my opinion, the “N” word that has been currently used with the letter “A” at the end, should have no place in Hip Hop whatsoever!

In my opinion, a Hip Hop movie is a movie that reflects the genre and respects the true essence of the Hip Hop culture. Just because a Hip Hop idol is in a movie, that doesn’t mean that it’s a Hip Hop movie.
