General Admission

By Da Emazing One • Aug 15th, 2008 • Category: Mic Check

I have been getting a distinct impression that most of us involved in Hip Hop culture generally admit that the state of the rap world today is on a life support system. Rappers are claiming to have the new flava, but their cheerleading style leaves most of us with that sour, bitter taste in our [...]

How to Make The Rock The Bells Festival Better

By Q Ball • Aug 10th, 2008 • Category: Feature Articles

To Whom it May Concern at Guerilla Union:
I attended the Rock the Bells festival in Miami on August 2, 2008. I give the event two thumbs way up for its performance line ups, the surprise special guests, the quality of sound and lighting, the great work the roadies conducted between sets, and the participating [...]

Subject Matters

By Da Emazing One • Aug 6th, 2008 • Category: Mic Check

Has anyone notice that it seems rappers of today have few subject matters to rap about? They either have what I call skirt chasing lyrics, political lyrics, or material lyrics. I can’t be the only one who wants to give their lyrics the benefit of the doubt, but I always end up tuning them out! [...]

The Rock The Bells Festival Is All In The Family

By Q Ball • Aug 4th, 2008 • Category: Feature Articles

It was a family reunion on a long and hot summer day in downtown Miami, Florida. A typical family reunion where you find elders with the peppery white hair all the way down to the little ones entering pre-school. You had people giving hugs and pounds who haven’t seen each other in a very long [...]

How To Make a Tagger’s Mop

By Q Ball • Jul 22nd, 2008 • Category: The Blackbook

I am not a big advocate of tagging unless you got a mural and skills to back it up. I believe a tag should be a writer’s signature to his works, but that is just my view point. I guess it is because I see too many taggers hating on another man’s piece when it is dope.

Slow Your Role

By Da Emazing One • Jul 16th, 2008 • Category: Feature Articles

I have been noticing a disturbing trend with rappers making the move from the stage to the big screen. Since there are people who are deaf to hearing what is true school Hip Hop music, it can also be said about those same people being blind to what is truly happening with rappers going Hollywood.

The Best Way An Unknown MC Must Self-Promote: Part 2

By Da Emazing One • Jul 10th, 2008 • Category: Mic Check

Now it’s time to build your name out there. It will take you and your DJ’s efforts to complete the rest on your own. That step would be to go live and practice in front of a small audience for your development.

The Best Way An Unknown MC Must Self-Promote: Part 1

By Da Emazing One • Jul 9th, 2008 • Category: Mic Check

You know, most up and coming rappers today believe getting their rhyme skills any type of attention is to enter a local MC battle, exhibit their presence online (i.e. YouTube or MySpace), or get on multiple mix tapes and hope a talent scout would discover them. These are all well proven buzz tactics that can get you noticed, but there is one problem to these forms of promotion. It ain’t live! It’s Memorex!

Da Black Gold Agreement

By Da Emazing One • Jul 7th, 2008 • Category: Mic Check

As I was checking out the latest current events on our website, I came across an interesting article that was recently posted yesterday by Thug Life Army.com. By now, almost every Hip Hopper out there has heard the recent criticism of the new school kid, Soulja Boy, by the old school veteran, Ice T. Me, myself and I have no words for this matter, however a brother by the name of N.Y. Oil had plenty of great words to say on Hip Hop Music as a whole.

Never Well Deserved

By Da Emazing One • Jul 6th, 2008 • Category: Mic Check

The last time I watched a music award show on television was back in 1984. It was the American Music Awards. I believe on that show Prince performed Purple Rain live on stage. Also at that time, they didn’t have a rap category either. Neither did the Grammies or any other award show, including MTV.
