Notorious Review

Yes! It is to be said that I did go and check out Hollywood’s first Hip Hop biopic Notorious! It is the story of the life, and short career, of Christopher “Biggie Smalls aka The Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace. Now in my opinion, as far as biopics go, this movie is a lil’ less than average.
The [...]

Rap To The Future

Missing in Hip Hop music today, in my opinion, are two types of rhymes. Before I tell you what they are in a question, I want everyone to understand this is a simple message for up and coming MCs, rap artists, and rappers. If you know one please send him this message. If you are one, I want you to be honest with yourself meanwhile thinking about your future.

Da Black Gold Agreement

As I was checking out the latest current events on our website, I came across an interesting article that was recently posted yesterday by Thug Life Army.com. By now, almost every Hip Hopper out there has heard the recent criticism of the new school kid, Soulja Boy, by the old school veteran, Ice T. Me, myself and I have no words for this matter, however a brother by the name of N.Y. Oil had plenty of great words to say on Hip Hop Music as a whole.

My Brother’s Keeper

As I was driving home from work the other day, I pulled up to a stop sign. Standing on the sidewalk was a boy no older than 8 or 9. He looks right at me and starts reciting the lyrics to Lil’ Wayne’s “Ride for my Ni–az”. My first thought (aside from, “where are his parents?”) was, “This kid thinks he’s impressing me with his ability to quote Lil’ Wayne, profanities and all.” I’ll bet he couldn’t even remember what he learned in school that day, but he sure knew those lyrics.

Shut the Crunk up!!!

In the world of rap music today, there is an odor that’s being carried out. It is a stench so powerful it could give raw sewage a serious run for its money. But this smell actually comes from a sound, which I am sad to say. Yes, a sound that is dominating the airwaves. Let [...]

People Don’t Ask, “What’s The Difference?”

What I am about to speak on is the art of emceeing. My simple definition of rapping is when one recites a form of poetry in rhythm as in the sound of urban music. However this art like most things, has basic rules that one must go by at all times. Here are those basic [...]

Who Stole the DJ?

Who stole the DJ? The Fresh Prince asked this question on the cut of the same name from his 1991 album Homebase. Whether or not he was subliminally alluding to what I’m about to write about is open for debate. I have yet to understand how the top (c)rap artists of today can claim to be representing Hip Hop without such a vital element as the DJ.
