The Memoirs of Grandmaster Flash

By Q Ball • Jun 22nd, 2008 • Category: Feature Articles

There are many books and interviews on Hip Hop but none shine in comparison to works that document history and biography. Especially when it comes from the mouths of Brothers and Sisters like Grandmaster Flash. If you are a DJ or Hip Hop enthusiast you have no excuse not to own a copy of The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash.

What Is Alternative Hip Hop?

By Danger S • Jun 10th, 2008 • Category: Feature Articles

I’m sure you’ve heard the term before; Alternative Hip Hop. What a funny name. I thought Hip Hop music had no bounderies or guidelines. I thought Hip Hop music was composed of a conglomerate of influences blended to create a unique sound.

Nelly vs The Truth: Part 2

By Danger S • Jun 1st, 2008 • Category: Feature Articles

It seems that I have a little more to get off my chest about Nelly’s comments on the BET Blog concerning Hip Hop vs. America, especially how He ended it. Here is the direct quote:

“Now, Hip Hop is making money, we’re making strides, we’re the biggest music on the planet, and we’re also the largest black employers on the planet, so its allowing more brother and sisters to do other positive things, and send my kids to some of the best schools in the country. And to solidify trust funds, leave trust funds, have health care. It’s a beautiful thing, and I’m happy to be a part of it.”

Nelly vs The Truth

By Danger S • May 29th, 2008 • Category: Feature Articles

I ran across something by Nelly the other day on the BET Blog that I found quite interesting, and it falls in line with my article Who’s really in charge? He was making reference to Hip Hop vs. America in which he took part last fall, and He goes on a tirade about how America wants to ban Hip Hop, gangsta rap especially, because they can’t control it.

Ladies Last?

By Da Emazing One • May 17th, 2008 • Category: Feature Articles

Is it me, or do we seem to keep our ladies in Hip Hop on mute? Why is it that their gift is not as loud as the others? From what I’ve heard, Lady Pink is a well known Graff Artist, but did you see what I just wrote? “From what I’ve heard.”

Weeds in Hip Hop

By Da Emazing One • May 11th, 2008 • Category: Feature Articles

Now now, slow your roll, Y’all! This ain’t a chronic parable that you’re about read. What you are about read is Old School Scholar’s meaning of the term weeds in Hip Hop.
You see, in my opinion, this is the number one problem in Hip Hop today. We all understand if someone who has never [...]

Do We Oughta Be In Pictures?

By Da Emazing One • May 4th, 2008 • Category: Feature Articles

When was the last time you saw a good Hip Hop movie? Before you answer that, let me give you my definition of what a true Hip Hop movie is. In my opinion, a Hip Hop movie is a movie that reflects the genre and respects the true essence of the Hip Hop culture. Just because a Hip Hop idol is in a movie, that doesn’t mean that it’s a Hip Hop movie.

Breakin’ Convention 08: International Hip Hop Theatre

By Q Ball • May 1st, 2008 • Category: Body Rock

I found this excellent article from the United Kingdom’s, The Independent, regarding the international appreciation of B-Boying as a fine arts presentation. The article is excellent due to the fact Hip Hop’s aesthetics are progressively being extracted and translated into other mediums as previously documented in Jeff Chang’s book, Total Chaos. This weekend, from May 3-5, it is the Breaking Convention 08: An International Festival of Hip Hop Dance Theatre at Sadler’s Wells in London.

Hip Hop’s First Broadcast Network

By Q Ball • Apr 28th, 2008 • Category: Feature Articles

I was reading a press release about the Hip Hop Hall of Fame forming an alliance with the InterVision Network Corporation (IVNET) to provide international multimedia access to all end users. That is nothing special right? Everybody is going global with streaming content’s availability from the PC, Apple TV to cell phones, and the BBC is leading the way with IPTV access.

For Ex-Sample

By Da Emazing One • Apr 26th, 2008 • Category: Wheels of Steel

Sampling is not a privilege; it is an art. It should be treated and respected as such. So what ended the sampling era of Hip Hop? I have my theory. So let me share that theory with you and see if you agree or disagree.
There are some Hip Hop producers that claim to know [...]
