Ugandan Hip Hop: B-Boy Activism In The Mother Land

By Q Ball • Sep 3rd, 2008 • Category: Body Rock

I want you to see evidence where Hip Hop culture shines at its brightest, and how it enlightens a possible future for those who once envisioned tomorrow as a blur. I want you to feel how it made you feel the first time you found Hip Hop kissing you on the cheek with open arms. Do you remember when?

By Q Ball • Jul 23rd, 2008 • Category: The Blackbook

We have quite a few prestigious competitions, battles and tournaments worldwide for Hip Hop. For B-Boys we have the grandest tournament, Battle of the Year. For DJ turntablism there is the hard earned DMC World DJ Championships, and for MCs there were many that have come and gone like the historic New Music Seminar. Today, we now have the million dollar prize up for grabs at the brand new World Series of Hip Hop in Atlanta, Georgia, September 27, 2008.

Toys Crew: Denmark’s Call of the Wild Style

By Q Ball • Jul 17th, 2008 • Category: The Blackbook

It is the call of the wild style, and traditionally Graff Writers will hook up in crews like a pack of wolves roaming the night. A crew is exactly like any other team or company focusing on a common goal to get the job done. They choose their pieces, pick their target, establish the plan, agree to the tasks, enter, execute, bomb, and finally exit like vapor.

Webster’s Dilemma

By Da Emazing One • May 18th, 2008 • Category: Feature Articles

We all have our own interpretation or impression of the “N” word spelled with letters “E-R” at the end. Little do people think that word has been transforming since the 1800s. That word historically is greatly despised by the Black community, until the mid 1960s, it evolved and began to spread like a disease without a cure. That word of hate has been twisted into a word showing perverse love. I don’t give a damn what anybody says to me, in my opinion, the “N” word that has been currently used with the letter “A” at the end, should have no place in Hip Hop whatsoever!

Breakin’ Convention 08: International Hip Hop Theatre

By Q Ball • May 1st, 2008 • Category: Body Rock

I found this excellent article from the United Kingdom’s, The Independent, regarding the international appreciation of B-Boying as a fine arts presentation. The article is excellent due to the fact Hip Hop’s aesthetics are progressively being extracted and translated into other mediums as previously documented in Jeff Chang’s book, Total Chaos. This weekend, from May 3-5, it is the Breaking Convention 08: An International Festival of Hip Hop Dance Theatre at Sadler’s Wells in London.

The Colour of Language

By Da Emazing One • Mar 27th, 2008 • Category: Feature Articles

Before I start I must first say this, I came from the land where the English language originated, the United Kingdom. It is the first language there, and it is taught with discipline. When I was 14, by the love of my Parents, we migrated to the United States where I soon discovered that the [...]
