Wave Twisters: A 45 Minute Animated Turntablism Headrush!
Q Ball
Q Ball is a South Florida inner city native who has embraced Hip Hop culture ever since He first heard "Rapper's Delight" in 1979. His journey to live the culture was enhanced during the massive relocation boom of New Yorkers throughout the 80s which gave South Florida the nickname, "The 6th Borough." His enthusiasm lead him into the skills of Lyricism, Graff Writing, and Track Producing and now writes for Old School Scholar.
This Christmas, if you are looking for an eccentric gift for a hardcore Hip Hop head who loves animation, turntablism, and WTF moments then Wave Twisters on DVD is it! DJs Q-Bert, Yoga Frog, D-Styles, Flare, with Buckethead (including animators Syd Garon, Doug Cunningham, and Eric Henry) went to town on this video. Watching this video is if the ill animation style of The Yellow Submarine met the Hip Hop culture with a soundtrack blessed by its aforementioned scratch DJs. Just simply dope!
Hopefully this piece and other films in the past will stir up some creative juices for someone to step forward. For example, I personally love the roughly syncopated intro to Wild Style, the animated graff transitions to Planet B-Boy, and the storytelling variety in Heavy Metal. What if the funk, aesthetics, experience, and politics of the Hip Hop culture (and its people) were injected into a full blown animated motion picture to further tell our stories. Now that would be really dope!
Quit searching and buy this DVD as a special present, and then get one for yourself. Your Hip Hop DVD library will thank you! It comes equipt with additional DVD extras, too.
Enjoy!
