Welcome to Old School Scholar: The University of Hip Hop!

We have proudly launched March 31, 2008 with much enthusiasm to share with the global Hip Hop community as a place for true school heads to network and share resources.

Ultimate Breaks and Beats - Classic DJ LP collectionHip Hop has been deeply hooked into the corporate machine for the past decade to the point where there are barely any real outlets for traditionalists. If you look around at the music industry, for example, they have practically raped it from its four main elements and repackaged it with the stigmas Hip Hop is originally against. The big labels only want rap music and not Hip Hop. Where are the DJs, B-boys, and Graff writers? Hell, whatever happen to rap crews or groups like it use to be? Also, why does an artist have to get shot, jail time, or “thug out” to get heavy publicity?

The demise of independent music labels are also another downturn where the “big bank eats little bank” condition comes into play. Right now the “little banks” are reforming thanks to the Internet, digital media and social networking. The people no longer need a recording label to produce his craft to share with the world, and the Gestapo RIAA is now a fledgling organization that is getting negative feedback from the big labels due to its witch hunts on their main consumer base.T LA Rock - Def Jam's First recording artist featuring DJ Jazzy Jay -

DJs, B-boys, and Graff writers have been busy working the international circuits maintaining our global respect while New World rappers stay busy as corporate puppets on MTV and BET.

Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America have locked on because they embrace Hip Hop as the people’s voice of activism, socialism, community, and unity. They get it! It is no longer just a youth movement (although the good die young at heart.) Hip Hop is loudly communicated with aerosol calligraphy for the eyes, footwork frenzy for the touch of rhythm, spirited wordplay for the ears, and vinyl syncopated beats for congregating the masses creating “One Voice.” The taste of Hip Hop’s flavor and the scent of its vapors is the luxury for the hearts content called passion! Global Hip Hop is the passion of one voice from the people gift wrapped from The Bronx and Harlem.

DJ Red Alert and DJ Chuck Chillout at Kiss FM NYCWe at Old School Scholar encourage your participation to make The University of Hip Hop your home. We know there are many sites portraying Hip Hop but they fail to incorporate its wholeness. This site was created by three passionate individuals who wish to reach out to its global family. We are not a bunch of “old heads” who are living in the past. We are True School heads who wish to preserve its roots and re-institutionalize the culture back to its people from what the Old School has taught us. Many of you out there feel the same way.

Hip Hop is not about Alvin and The Chipmunks. Hip Hop is not about celebrity gossip. Hip Hop is not about getting’ crunk, glamorizing thuggery, and video hos. You will not find that crap here, nor can anyone bring that crap here.

Please excuse us in the next several months because we are a work in progress. Feel free to comment on posts, communicate in The Campus Forum, experience The Museum and Galleries, and walk through the site. We welcome all to participate by sending articles, videos, audio, and pics, but keep it clean. We do expect children as visitors to learn from its elders. The Legendary Love Bug Starski

We do reserve the right to post what we deem essential to The University of Hip Hop so please keep it essential. Keep it True School. More than likely you will be heard by the world.

We are not claiming to be the ultimate scholars, yet we have learned from the best. Understand it is not about us but the culture. Old School Scholar is about all of us knowing and sharing the history and roots of Hip Hop. It is about all of us becoming Old School scholars. It is about the community and symposium of purists for the people.

Graff Legend Dondi WhiteWe are not from The Bronx or Harlem, yet we came from all over in similar paths because of The Bronx and Harlem. We are the begotten ones, not the forgotten ones, from the Old School. We have been in this culture since the beginning when it was considered just a fad. We were all DJs, MCs, Graff writers, and B-boys who wish to assimilate with others who love Hip Hop as we do. And yes we are fans, too!

Thank you for visiting and enjoy your stay at The University of Hip Hop. Let the renaissance of Hip Hop begin!
